The state government has suspended a civil surgeon and terminated the services of a doctor and nurses of the Bhandara Hospital where 10 infants were killed in a fire at the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) in the wee hours of January 9.
It has also decided to take strict action against the contractor who maintains warmers that apparently caught fire and caused the devastation of lives and property.
Health minister Rajesh Tope announced the action on Thursday after receiving a report following an inquiry headed by Nagpur divisional commissioner Sanjeev Kumar. The report has indicted some staffers for dereliction of duty and blamed improper maintenance of the equipment.
