Four people, including three women, were killed and nine others injured after a reversing bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking knocked down pedestrians in suburban Bhandup (West) late on Monday night, police officials said. Among the injured, two victims suffered serious trauma and reported loss of sensation in the lower body, raising concerns over possible neurological damage.

Police said the bus was reversing when it rammed into pedestrians walking along the roadside, triggering chaos at the crowded junction as bystanders rushed to help those injured.
Emergency services were immediately mobilised, and the injured were shifted to multiple hospitals across the city, including Rajawadi Hospital, MT Agarwal Hospital, Sion Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Hira Mongi Hospital in Mulund, and Minaz Hospital in Bhandup. Despite sustained medical efforts, four victims were declared dead either on arrival or during treatment.
Hospital authorities confirmed that Pranita Sandip Rasam, 35, was declared dead at Rajawadi Hospital. At MT Agarwal Hospital, Varsha Sawant, 25, and Mansi Meghshyam Gurav, 49, were declared dead, while Prashant Shinde, 53, was brought dead. Another injured person, Prashant Dattaram Lad, 51, was discharged against medical advice.

Bhandup bus accident: Two critically injured with loss of lower-body sensation
Doctors said nine injured persons are currently admitted to various hospitals and are in stable condition. Among those undergoing treatment are Narayan Bhikaji Kamble, 59, Mangesh Mukund Dhukhande, 45, and Jyoti Vishnu Shirke, 55. However, medical teams expressed serious concern over the condition of two patients who sustained severe injuries.
Sheetal Alve, 39, is conscious but critically injured, with doctors reporting fractures and dislocation of the waist and left shoulder, facial bruising, and a 30–40 per cent loss of sensation in the lower body. Detailed medical investigations and scans are underway to determine the extent of neurological damage. Another injured victim, Ramdas Rupaye, 58, sustained head injuries and required stitches on the left side of his head. Although his CT scan is normal, doctors said he is unable to walk without support due to severe dizziness caused by head trauma, though his overall condition remains stable.
Other injured patients include Pratap Gopal Korpe, 60, admitted at Fortis Hospital, Ravindra Sevaram Ghadigaonkar, 56, admitted at a private hospital in Mulund, and Dinesh Vinayak Sawant, 49, along with a 12-year-old girl, Purva Sandip Rasam, who are being treated at a private hospital in Bhandup.
The bus driver has been detained for questioning, and police said an FIR is being registered to ascertain responsibility and determine whether negligence was involved. A detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the Bhandup bus accident.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the incident as “extremely unfortunate” and announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of those who died. In a post on X, he expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, assuring that the state government would extend all necessary support.
