<p>The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-coastal-fisherfolk-reel-under-losses-amid-geopolitical-tensions-pre-monsoon-showers-23550516" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">India Meteorological Department</a> (IMD) has issued a yellow alert predicting heavy rainfall in Mumbai.</p>
<p>According to the weather report, Mumbai may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, with light to moderate rainfall and winds gusting up to 40 to 50 kmph in isolated areas.</p>
<p>According to the latest Mumbai weather updates from the IMD, the city is expected to experience cloudy skies with the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in the city and suburbs on Saturday, May 24.</p>
<p>The IMD's Santacruz observatory in suburban <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-rain-alert-yellow-warning-for-mumbai-thane-and-palghar-on-saturday-sunday-red-alert-for-ratnagiri-and-sindhudurg-check-imd-forecast-here-23549918" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai</a> recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory registered a high of 32.2 degrees Celsius and a low of 27 degrees Celsius, as per the latest Mumbai weather updates.</p>
<p>An orange alert has been issued for the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations starting Saturday.</p>
<p>Ghat regions of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while the ghat areas of Nashik may receive rainfall of a slightly lower intensity.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The IMD attributed this weather activity to the formation of a low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea off the coast of south Konkan and Goa.</p>
<p>The weather department said a cyclonic circulation had developed over the Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast around May 21.</p>
<p>A low-pressure area was formed around May 22 over the east-central <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-rains-complete-all-ongoing-drain-cleaning-work-in-mumbai-by-june-7-deputy-cm-eknath-shinde-to-bmc-23550311" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Arabian Sea</a> near Karnataka coast. As a result, heavy rainfall was recorded across Maharashtra in the past few days. The state will continue to experience heavy rainfall till May 25, particularly affecting Konkan and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra. IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in parts of Pune, Alhyanagar, Kolhapur, Satara, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a red alert for Goa, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall till Sunday, with the state government advising people against venturing into rivers and waterfalls.</p>
<p>Heavy showers lashed parts of the coastal state in the last 24 hours.</p>
<p>According to the IMD website, Ponda in South Goa received the highest rainfall of 162 mm, followed by<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-rains-rains-likely-to-hit-pune-satara-sindhudurg-and-other-parts-of-maharashtra-imd-issues-alert-23550118" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"> Dharbandora taluka</a> with 124.2 mm of rain and Margao with 123.4 mm.</p>
