The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-bandras-hill-road-footpath-encroachments-persist-despite-bmc-notices-and-demolitions-23647883" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)</a> has begun a demolition drive in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai for a road-widening project, officials said on Thursday.
The civic body said that it carried out eviction action against 28 structures affect by the project in Ghatkopar West, officials said on Thursday.
The action was carried out on October 7 by the N Ward office between Jhunjhunwala College and the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, the civic body said.
<h2>28 structures affected by road widening</h2>
According to the BMC, the 28 structures were affected by the proposed <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-57-commercial-units-demolished-as-govt-reclaims-six-acres-worth-rs-250-crore-23649588" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">road widening</a> between Jhunjhunwala College and the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
The civic administration carried out the eviction action as part of the road-widening process.
<h2>Police security deployed</h2>
The operation was conducted under the leadership of N Ward Assistant Commissioner Jaideep More.
Adequate police personnel were deployed during the action, along with <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-bmc-conducts-demolition-drive-in-dongri-9-illegal-shops-demolished-23626276" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">BMC officers and employees</a>, to maintain security and ensure the smooth implementation of the drive.
The BMC said the action was carried out by its N Ward office.
