Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has alleged that Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and former mayor Kishori Pednekar filed a “false election affidavit” by allegedly failing to disclose criminal cases registered against her in her nomination papers for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Election 2026.
In a post on social media platform X, the former Member of Parliament claimed that Pednekar did not mention first information reports (FIRs) related to the alleged Covid-19 dead body bag scam and the Worli slum rehabilitation authority (SRA) scam while filing her election affidavit for Ward No 199 in South Mumbai.

Sharing copies of a complaint letter and an FIR, Somaiya said cases were registered at Agripada and Nirmal Nagar police stations in 2023. He alleged that Pednekar’s name appears in the FIRs, including the one registered by the economic offences wing in connection with the alleged irregularities in the procurement and sale of body bags during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Somaiya further claimed that another FIR pertains to an alleged discrepancy related to Pednekar’s residential address mentioned during the 2017 civic elections, linked to the Worli SRA project.

“I have filed a complaint with the Election Commission. Supreme Court and Election Commission instructions are clear that every candidate must disclose criminal cases and FIRs registered against them in their nomination forms,” Somaiya said in his post
He also urged the election authorities to verify the affidavit and take appropriate action, alleging that incorrect information was provided deliberately.
There was no immediate response from Kishori Pednekar to the allegations. Attempts to contact her for a comment were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
Election officials are yet to issue a statement on the complaint.
