In a bid to ensure that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Election takes place smoothly, the Mumbai Traffic Police (Western Suburbs Division) has issued a temporary notification imposing road closures in parts of Kandivali and Malad.

The restrictions, aimed at facilitating the distribution and collection of electronic voting machines (EVMs) as well as counting, will be in effect from the early morning of Wednesday, January 14, until the midnight on Friday, January 16.


According to the notification signed by deputy commissioner of police (traffic), western suburbs, Ajit Borhade, the measures are precautionary to regulate traffic in the affected areas and prevent disruptions during election-related activities. EVMs will be distributed from Bajaj School on Bajaj Road in Kandivali West for polling stations in R-South wards 19 to 31, and from Township Municipal School on Marve Road in Malvani, Malad West, for P-North wards 32 to 35 and 46 to 49. Post-polling, the EVMs will be securely deposited at a strong room set up at Malvani Township CBSE School, opposite Asmita Jyoti Society in Malad West, where vote counting is scheduled for January 16.



The following roads will be closed to all vehicles except those involved in election duties:

Vasanji Lalji Road – from Matoshree Zhunka Bhakar Kendra to Chandresh Wine Shop

Bajaj Road – from the SV Road junction to Bajaj School

Bajaj Cross Road No. 1 – from Samrat Building to Super Shopping Complex/Top-10 Shop

Marve Road northbound carriageway towards Madh – from Kachcha Road up to Bafhira Junction

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience:

Take a right turn from Pravin Sanghvi Road and proceed via Nehru Road to reach SV Road

Take a left turn from Narayan Joshi Road, go through the station area and Dalvi Road to access SV Road

Use the southbound carriageway of Marve Road.

The police have warned that violators will face strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and other applicable laws.

Citizens are requested to cooperate by following the instructions of traffic police personnel and utilising the suggested diversions to minimise hassle,” the press release stated.

This notification comes amid heightened preparations for the BMC polls, with authorities emphasising public safety and seamless traffic flow in the bustling western suburbs. Residents of Kandivali and Malad have been are urged to plan their commutes accordingly during the three-day period.
