Though BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) are separated by just 24 seats, BJP emerged as the clear winner in strike rate in the BMC Elections 2026 results. Winning 89 of 137 seats, BJP outperformed both allies and rivals, highlighting its superior vote conversion efficiency

The difference between BJP and Shiv Sena UBT in terms of actual seats won as individual parties (excluding alliance partners) may be just 24 seats, but when it comes to strike rate, BJP is clearly far ahead of all parties, including its ally Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
In the recently concluded BMC elections, the BJP’s strike rate was twice that of its ally Eknath Shinde and nearly 62 per cent higher than Shiv Sena UBT. The numbers highlight BJP’s dominance in converting contested seats into wins, underlining its efficiency compared to both allies and rivals.
This means, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, once seen as a big player, is now showing signs of slowing down, at least in Mumbai. His party is still in the race, but its performance for the recently concluded BMC elections has dipped compared to its ally, the BJP, which continues to lead.
If one breaks down the number, Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena won 29 of the 90 seats it contested with a strike rate of about 32 per cent. His ally, the BJP, dominated the contest, winning 89 of 137 seats, or around 65 per cent clearly outperforming Shinde’s faction.
BMC Election 2026 Results: Parties and the number of winning candidates
On the other hand Shiv Sena UBT, led by Uddhav Thackeray, has done moderately well, while the MNS struggled to make an impact. Shiv Sena UBT, led by Uddhav Thackeray, managed a decent performance in the elections, winning 65 of 163 seats, with a strike rate of around 40 per cent. The party showed moderate strength but could not match the pace (65 per cent strike rate) of the BJP.
The MNS, on the other hand, struggled to make an impact, winning only 6 of 53 seats, with a low strike rate of about 11 per cent. Meanwhile on Saturday, Shiv Sena UBT leader and Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) candidates who won the BMC elections met their respective party leaders. Both Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj stated that the battle has just begun and there is a long way to go.
“We will continue to fight for the pride of Marathi and Maharashtra,” Raj mentioned. Uddhav while addressing the media said, “Shiv Sena UBT and MNS exhibited good coordination and will continue to stay together forever.”
‘Mumbai citizens show us trust’
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis speaking at a victory rally in Mumbai, states that their strike rate is higher. “This high strike rate is because of Mumbai’s citizens showing trust and endorsing development vision of city,” the CM added. He further slammed the linguistic politics done by rivals. “The election outcome exhibits that even Marathi people have voted for development and not for divisive politic,” Fadnavis mentioned and claimed that it is victory of efforts taken by party workers and leaders.
