To keep its Mithi river rejuvenation and water quality improvement project on track against a strict working timeline till 2029, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited tenders to hire a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) for Package 3 of the project at a cost of Rs 10.6 crore, to supervise construction, coordinate with contractors, contract management, dispute resolution, and the main objective of approving designs submitted by the design-build-operate contractor.

About Package 3

Package 3 involves two major components — flood control and water quality improvement — mainly in the tidal zone of the river from CST Bridge Kurla to Mahim causeway, including the Vakola river (including sewage collection networks, pumping stations, interception of other dry weather flow, and disposal of waste material). BMC has planned this work at a cost of '1700 crore, by intercepting dry weather flow at tidal outfalls and transferring it into the sewer system, training the river with the help of retaining walls, and providing service roads for maintenance works. Package 3 also involves the rehabilitation of over 2000 project-affected persons, a senior civic official said.
