BMC urges Mumbaikars to avoid beaches amid high swell wave alert from IMD

BMC announced a 36-hour alert from 11.30 am to 11.30 pm today (May 5). Nearshore and beach areas may have swell waves of 0.5 to 1.5 meters.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, on Saturday, advised Mumbaikars to avoid going to the beaches as the India Meteorological Department and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services have issued an alert warning of high-energy swell waves along the Indian coast. 

The alert, per BMC's announcement, was effective for 36 hours beginning 11.30 am till 11.30 pm today (May 5). The civic body said that the nearshore and beach areas may experience swell waves reaching heights of 0.5 to 1.5 meters.
