The University of Mumbai has jumped ten places from last year to 58th position in the BRICS global university ranking. It has ranked 3rd in India and 1st in Maharashtra.
The QS University rankings: BRICS is designed to highlight the top universities in the five BRICS countries- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

According to BRICS university ranking, MU has established its name in industrial collaborations and runs various professional courses. At the national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and out-reaches activities. In the last five years it has seen 104 per cent increase in under-graduate students, 112 per cent increase in post-graduate students and 147 per cent increase in distance - education students. There is 156 per cent increase in the number of research papers published in International journals.
According to the indicators, the academic reputation of University of Mumbai scores 61.50, whereas, Employer Reputation scores 93.80, Citations per Paper holds 87.60, Papers Per faculty Ranks 99.90 and faculty staff with PhD is 100.00.
As with all of the university rankings produced by QS, the indicators attempt to assess universities&rsquo; performance in four key areas: research, teaching, employability and international outlook.

IISC ranked 5th among best universities in BRICS nations
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has been ranked fifth among the best universities in the BRICS countries by an international ranking body, making it thus the best performance by an Indian institute in the global ranking lists.
The 'QS University Rankings: BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) 2015' released on Wednesday reflected the Chinese dominance in the ranking list with the top three spots going to Tsinghua University, Peking University and Fudan University.
Chinese universities in fact occupied seven of the top 10 spots and almost half of the top 50.
"With 53 institutions in the top 200, Russia is second only to China, which has 67 universities featured. Yet only seven Russian institutions make the top 50, compared to China's 21, Brazil's 10, and India's nine," a statement said.
