A car caught fire on the Mumbai-Goa highway and then exploded on Wednesday morning. A businessman was also charred to death in the accident. According to the police, there was a short circuit because of which the fire occurred.
Thane resident, Sachin Kamble was driving from Khed towards his snack factory at Chiplun in Ratnagiri district at 11:15 am, and he was trapped in the car.
Khed police inspector Suvarna Patki told <a title="Thane man dies as car goes up in flames" href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/navi-mumbai/thane-man-dies-as-car-goes-up-in-flames/articleshow/69866774.cms">The Times of India</a>, "Kamble was driving alone. As soon as a short-circuit led to a fire, the car's doors locked due to the centralised lock system and Kamble was trapped. The vehicle exploded and he was charred to death inside."

Head constable Sanjay Maralkar said, "Kamble, a resident of B-Thanawala chawl in Thane, was running his family business of snacks. He and his two siblings often visited the factory. On Wednesday, Sachin visted the factory and went to Khed for some work. The incident took place when he was returning to the factory."
"Glass pieces of the car's windowpanes were found scattered on the highway. The highway contractor's staff tried to douse the fire with water from a tanker but could not save Kamble. A fire brigade team reached the spot," Maralkar further said.
The police said that the body was taken to a local government hospital and then handed to his relatives. "An accidental fire case has been registered. However, the local RTO office has been asked to conduct an inquiry to ascertain how the fire started and the explosion took place. Prima facie, there is no suspicion of any sabotage," said Maralkar.
