Car silencer theft rampant across Mumbai Metropolitan Region

Car silencers are made up of precious metals which sell for Rs 5-6,000 per 10 grams

The accused include three thieves and two scrap dealers
The Mumbai Police’s Property Cell has arrested five persons for stealing silencers, and removing precious metals from them to sell in the open market. The metal from the silencers is sold at Rs 5,000-6,000 per 10 grams. The accused include two scrap dealers, who helped other accused remove the metal. The accused have been booked for more than 20 offences across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
An offence was registered on October 22, at Antop Hill police station by a taxi driver who said that his car’s silencer was stolen during the night. Along with Antop Hill police station, the Property Cell of the Crime Branch was conducting a parallel investigation of the offence as well. During investigation, the Property Cell received a tip-off that few silencer thieves are coming to Wadala to sell their wares. A trap was laid and three thieves and two scrap dealers were arrested.
