Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Chhagan Bhujbal underwent heart surgery at a private Mumbai hospital on Monday and is currently in stable condition, his office said.

According to news agency PTI, the 78-year-old NCP leader was operated on at the Asian Heart Institute under the supervision of renowned cardiologist Dr Ramakanta Panda.

Doctors have advised Bhujbal to rest for a few days to ensure a smooth recovery. Following medical recommendations, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister will refrain from meeting visitors during this period.

“His health is stable, and he is expected to make a full recovery and resume his official duties soon,” the statement from his office said.

Sources close to the hospital told mid-day.com that Bhujbal was admitted to the Asian Heart Institute on October 30, a day after undergoing an angiogram at Jaslok Hospital. The angiogram reportedly revealed three blockages in different arteries, though his condition remained stable.

As Bhujbal was on dual blood-thinning medication, doctors waited four days before performing the surgery. The procedure was completed successfully and without complications, sources added.
