CM Fadnavis reviews dam discharges amid heavy rains in Maharashtra

As a precautionary step, authorities have urged all evacuated citizens to remain in relief camps, citing the increasing water discharge from multiple major reservoirs.

According to official data released at 9:00 AM, several key dams are currently discharging large volumes of water due to rising inflow. The Jayakwadi Dam, which received around 150 mm of rainfall in its catchment area, is releasing 1,25,000 cusecs of water into the Godavari River. Authorities have warned that the discharge could rise to 1.5 lakh cusecs, depending on continued rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Majalgaon Dam has reduced its outflow to 41,701 cusecs, a significant drop from its earlier release of 95,000 cusecs.

In regions like Dharashiv, Solapur, Ahilyanagar, and Beed, the Seena Kolegaon area is witnessing discharge levels of around 75,000 cusecs. However, some parts have seen the rate drop slightly to around 60,000 cusecs.

The Ujani Dam is also contributing to the water discharge scenario, currently releasing 1 lakh cusecs.

The state government has reiterated its appeal to residents, particularly those living in low-lying or riverbank areas, to stay alert, avoid venturing near water bodies, and follow all safety advisories issued by the district administration and disaster management teams. Monitoring efforts remain ongoing across all vulnerable zones.

Several Pune dams release water amid continuous heavy rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune district today (Sunday), warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the ghats and surrounding areas over the next three hours. Citizens have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

According to information from the state ministry in Mumbai, isolated locations in the Pune ghat region are likely to experience intense downpours. The administration has urged residents, particularly those in low-lying areas, to stay cautious.

Meanwhile, several dams in the Pune district have reported rising water levels due to continuous rainfall.

Mulshi dam discharge increased

The Tata Power management at Mulshi Dam announced that the reservoir is currently filled to 99.58 per cent of its capacity. As a result, the discharge into the Mula River is being increased from 3,320 cusecs to 7,000 cusecs starting from 12:00 noon. Officials stated that further changes in discharge will depend on rainfall intensity and inflow conditions.

Authorities have strictly appealed to citizens not to enter riverbeds and to immediately shift any livestock or belongings from riverbanks to safer areas.
