The stage is set for the Coldplay concert on November 19, and, not surprisingly, police forces have constantly been on their toes over the past few days to ensure foolproof security.
Mumbai Police along with Quick Response Team (QRT) commandos conducted marathon security drills at MMRDA grounds, the venue for the Global Citizen Festival India (GCFI), in the early hours of Friday.
"We reviewed the security arrangements inside the premises and also analysed the outer security cover as planned for the event. The security drill took place between 2-3 am and QRT commandos also took part in it along with Mumbai Police officials," said a senior police official.
Considering the huge crowd expected at the event, Mumbai police has also been coordinating with National Security Guard (NSG) commandos for security arrangements to ensure complete safety of PM Narendra Modi, who is likely to attend the event.
Speaking to mid-day, an Assistant Commissioner of Mumbai police said, "The PM is expected to attend the event, so, there would be additional security cover. While some of our officials will be deployed at the venue, a team would be patrolling the surrounding areas. The venue can accommodate over 1 lakh people. So, we have also chalked out definite traffic management plans for tomorrow. Some diversions are likely to be made, which will be announced by traffic cops well in advance. Besides the CCTVs already installed along the route, we have also installed cameras inside and outside the premises. The live feed will be constantly monitored by security officials."
The Coldplay concert is touted to be one of the biggest International concerts in to be held in Mumbai since late pop star Michel Jackson performed here in 1996. Other international sensations, including The Vamps, Jay Z and actress-singer Demi Lovato, will also be performing at the event.
Among Indian celebs, Amitabh Bachchan, AR Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha and Arjit Singh are expected to attend the concert.
