The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), P S Baghel on Friday started his inspection of 11.04 km long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) metro line.
The inspection which began at 10.30 am went on till 6 pm.

Speaking to mid-day, Baghel said , "I started the inspection from metro car depot at D N Nagar at 10.30 am on Friday and it went on till 6 pm. Today (Friday), I inspected the rolling stock and the schedule for inspection is till April 28."
It should be noted that at present the VAG line has already received approval from RDSO, the research wing of Indian Railways.
CMRS safety check is the last statutory certification requirement before the line is opened to the public.
With opening of the line the journey on the route will be reduced to approximately 20 minutes from almost two hours. Post receiving the RDSO certification on April 2nd. MMOPL applied to CMRS on April 4 and in the meanwhile was in the process of preparing for the safety inspection.
The CMRS will inspect the entire Metro system which includes rolling stocks, workshop, depot, OCC, corridor, stations, track, OHE.
&ldquo;On being satisfied after detailed tests and trials, the CMRS would authorise MMOPL to commence passenger operations on the line. Thereafter, MMOPL has to approach the Ministry of Railways for declaring the line open for public carriage&rdquo; an MMOPL official said.
