A man, believed to be between 20 and 30 years was detained from Thane last evening, in connection with the Rs 9.16-crore robbery that was carried out in a company on Monday. A four-wheeler that was used in the crime and some amount of the stolen cash was seized from him.

&ldquo;The accused has revealed the names of all the other six involved in the crime and their location,&rdquo; said a senior officer from Thane crime branch.
Twelve teams of the Thane anti-extortion cell and local police have been on their toes after a smooth robbery by a group of seven was carried out in Checkmate services private limited, an entity responsible for safeguarding money of other companies and depositing the same in the respective bank accounts.
&ldquo;Around Rs 11 crore was removed for counting by the employees and the rest were stashed in the lockers. The robbers fled away with whatever could fill in their three drums and that came around to be R9.16 crore. It is clear that the one of the accused who came to commit the crime was either working in the firm or was given a clue about the place,&rdquo; said the officers.
Senior police officers that examined the CCTV footages thoroughly also visited Nashik and Aurangabad for investigation.
&ldquo;There are around 18 people involved in the crime out of which few planned the crime and seven were on field. Different people were given different tasks,&rdquo; said the officer, adding that most of them are hiding in Mankoli and the adjoining area in Bhiwandi.
Two watchmen and almost 17 employees were called for questioning yesterday.
Insider job In the preliminary probe, the police have got a whiff that an insider who might be a former employee of the company is involved in the crime as the robbers removed the CCTV cameras without any guidance.
&ldquo;Also the money that was stolen gave us a link. On usual days, the firm has cash of Rs 10 to 12 crore, but on Mondays the cash collection goes up to Rs 20 to 25 crore. So a person who works/worked for the company would know that on Mondays the cash collection goes up,&rdquo; said a senior police officer, adding that on Monday (the day of robbery), the cash was more than Rs 22 crore.
