Mumbai saw relief after reporting 1,000-plus infections for past few days; state’s daily figures drop significantly to 15,077 cases and 184 fatalities

After breaching the 1,000-mark for the past few days, the number of daily Covid-19 cases on Monday dived to 676 — an all-time low during the second wave of the novel Coronavirus outbreak. The state, too, witnessed a massive fall in infections and fatalities.
The test positivity rate (TPR), which rose above 4 per cent on Sunday, dropped to 3.78 per cent on Monday, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s report. The TPR was 3.14 per cent on May 28, the lowest in the second Covid-19 wave.

However, the number of newly confirmed Covid-19 fatalities increased to 29, as against 22 on Sunday. Seventeen of the 29 deceased patients had comorbidities, eight were in the 50-59 years age group and 19 were senior citizens.
The recovery rate of Covid-19 cases in the city remained steady at 94 per cent on Monday when 5,570 people were discharged. The doubling rate, however, improved to 433 days.

For the second consecutive day on Monday, Maharashtra saw a significant drop in new cases, and the number of deaths reduced massively as well. As per the state health department's report, 15,077 additional Covid-19 infections and 184 fatalities were confirmed. On Sunday, the state had reported over 402 Covid-19 casualties.
The case fatality rate in the state was 1.66 per cent on Monday, when 33,000 patients were discharged, leaving 2.53 lakh active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 1,952 cases, including the ones in Mumbai. Palghar and Raigad also reported a high number of cases in the MMR, at 182 and 326, respectively. Thane reported 155 new cases, while Kalyan-Dombivli 155 and Navi Mumbai 58.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 15 deaths, out of which Raigad reported nine, highest after Mumbai. Panvel reported four fatalities, while Navi Mumbai and Bhiwandi reported one death each.
