Covid-19: Mumbai’s TPR at 1.18 per cent; 354 new infections added

A marginal rise in Covid cases on Sunday kept Mumbai’s test positivity rate at 1.18 per cent. While the city reported 354 fresh cases, the virus claimed seven lives, said the BMC. As per the state data, 3,623 new cases were reported across Maharashtra. Amid concerns of crowding at public places and a likely third wave, the doubling rate continued to deteriorate and was at 1,210 days on Sunday.


On August 19, the city had recorded the second wave’s lowest TPR at.53 per cent, but the graph slowly headed north after that.  It was on August 16 that the numbers fell below 200 and recorded the second wave’s lowest daily infections.


At 11,163, the city had reported the highest number of daily cases on April 11. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5 when it was 10.96 per cent.   Among the seven fatalities, five had comorbidities. While four were in the age above 60 and two were between the ages of 40 and 60. 


The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, with 188 people getting discharged on Sunday, showed numbers released  by the BMC.  Apart from 3,623 new infections, the state also saw a marginal rise in the number of deaths. It reported 46 deaths fatalities, said the health department. The state’s test positivity rate marginally went up to 11.61 per cent. The state’s recovery rate was 97.04 per cent.

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent, while 2,972 were discharged through Sunday. Currently, Maharashtra has 50,229 active cases.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) cases witnessed a marginal rise in new cases on Sunday. Government numbers showed that 751 cases were reported in the MMR region including Mumbai.

Thane Municipal Corporation reported 72 cases, followed by 58 in Panvel. Raigad registered 35 cases, Vasai-Virar saw 33 new cases and Mira-Bhayandar 41 cases. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 1 COVID death on Sunday which was in Navi Mumbai.
