Maharashtra is witnessing a gradual surge in Covid-19 cases. On Wednesday, 107 new Covid-19 cases were reported from the state.

The total number of active cases in the state as of today is 615. Mumbai has reported a total of 753 cases since January, with a sharp increase observed in May (747 cases).
Health officials confirmed that all patients currently exhibit only mild symptoms.
Despite the rise in the number of cases, the health authorities have urged citizens not to panic, citing mild symptoms in all current patients and adequate healthcare infrastructure.
According to the Public Health Department, ongoing ILI (Influenza-Like Illness) and SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) surveillance is being carried out across the state. Patients identified through this surveillance are being tested for Covid-19, and those who test positive are receiving regular treatment.
Since January 2025, the state has conducted 18,885 Covid-19 tests. A total of 1,700 individuals have tested positive, of whom 1,064 have recovered. The current recovery rate stands at 62.58 per cent.
Meanwhile, 21 Covid-related deaths have been reported in Maharashtra.
Of these, 20 patients had underlying comorbidities including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, interstitial lung disease, and Parkinson's disease. One patient — a 47-year-old woman — reportedly died of symptoms related to fever and breathlessness, although she did not have known comorbid conditions.
In light of the current trends, the state public health department has issued a list of directives to all divisional, district, and municipal authorities after a state-level review meeting.
They are as follows:
Regular surveillance of ILI and SARI patients must continue.
At least 5 per cent of ILI patients and all SARI patients should be tested for Covid-19.
All positive samples are to be sent for whole genome sequencing.
Public health institutions and medical colleges under the state medical education department as well as hospitals in municipal areas must remain equipped with updated Covid-19 testing and treatment facilities.
The department has reassured that all necessary measures are in place to manage the situation effectively and urged citizens to remain vigilant while refraining from panic.
