Mumbai recorded 3,671 new coronavirus cases a 46.25 per cent increase over the previous day, civic officials said. While the new daily spike was highest since May 5, no new fatalities were recorded in the financial capital of the country.

As per the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, the R-value, which indicates how fast the virus is spreading, was 2.01 in Mumbai between December 23-28. The tally of Covid-19 cases in the city rose to 7,79,479, while the death toll reached 16,375.
