The Mumbai Crime Branch is likely to write to the state government, as well as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to get custody of underworld don Chhota Rajan, who is currently in New Delhi in CBI custody.

Rajan, who was deported from Bali on November 6, was not handed over to the Mumbai Police, which has 72 cases registered against him. His custody was given to CBI and the state had asked the Mumbai police to get all the 72 cases transferred to CBI.
"We want Rajan's custody, or access to him," said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Atul Chandra Kulkarni. Rajan himself had claimed in Bali that there were moles working in Mumbai Police for rival don Dawood Ibrahim. After this, the CBI took over all the cases from Mumbai Police and Rajan has since been kept under tight security in New Delhi in the CBI headquarters.

"We want to know a lot of things from Rajan about his working, the underworld, D Company, operators of underworld dons, and only he can share this with us. We at least want access to him, so that we can get information from him," said a Crime Branch officer.
"The CBI has till date taken documents from us for only about 11 cases that were mentioned in the dossier, and they don't seem to be interested in other cases. If granted access, the Crime Branch will either send a team to interrogate Rajan or request for his custody," said the officer. But sources told mid-day that some seniors officers with Home Affairs in New Delhi were not very keen to hand Rajan to Mumbai Police.
