The CSMT Railway Police have returned 275 gram of stolen gold jewellery, now valued at around Rs 40 lakh, to its rightful owner nearly three years after it was stolen from a local train. The jewellery, worth Rs 22.25 lakh at the time of the theft in 2023, was recovered during the probe but remained in court custody until a recent (July 31) court order.

Accused arrested

Police teams analysed CCTV footage and developed intelligence through informers, leading to the arrest of Akbar Hussain Mustafa Hussain Shaikh, 62, a resident of Ambarnath. Police recovered the entire stolen gold jewellery, weighing 275 grams, then valued at Rs 22.25 lakh, from the accused.
