Daily COVID-19 infections drop in Mumbai and Maharashtra

A day after recording their biggest single-day spike in cases, Maharashtra and Mumbai see slight fall at 47,288 and 9,879, respectively

Daily cases in the city dropped below 10,000 a day after registering the highest single-day spike on Sunday. State health department recorded 47,288 confirmed COVID-19 cases across Maharashtra on Monday and Mumbai accounted for 9,879 of them. The state recorded 155 deaths, including 21 in the city.

After two months of continuous surge in COVID-19 cases, the state’s total tally reached over 30.57 lakh on Monday. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 17,139 of which 9,879 were from Mumbai, 1,623 from the Thane Municipal Corporation, 1,196 from Navi Mumbai and 1,426 from Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation.


The state’s recovery rate has dropped further to 83.36 per cent, with 26,252 patients being discharged after full recovery. Currently, the state has 4,51,375 active cases. 

Mumbai’s recovery rate dropped, too, and stands at 81 per cent, while the doubling rate has declined to 40 days. The city’s overall growth rate increased rapidly in the past one week and it currently stands at 1.7 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far now stands at 46.25 lakh, and the number of tests done till now is 43.06 lakh. The city now has 74,522 active cases.

The mortality rate of the state remained steady around 1.83 per cent despite the increase in the number of daily deaths. Till date, there have been 56,033 COVID-19-related deaths across the state. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state stood at 1,402 as of Monday. These include people who died of other complications after recovering from COVID-19.

According to the state government’s data, Mumbai recorded the highest fatalities in the state at 21. BMC officials said that out of the 21 deceased patients, 13 were suffering from other ailments and 16 were senior citizens.

Meanwhile, more than 2.07 crore laboratory samples were collected across the state till date, and reports of 30.57 lakh came back positive. The test positivity ratio in the state currently stands at 14.76 per cent.
