A delegation of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), led by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, reached Davos on Monday for the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Summit 2026.

The delegation departed from Mumbai to secure global funding, technology tie-ups, and strategic partnerships for accelerating development across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The MMRDA team is part of the larger Maharashtra delegation headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The delegation in Switzerland includes AMC-I Vikram Kumar and other senior officials. The presence of the delegation at WEF aims to position MMR as a global investment destination while supporting Maharashtra’s broader goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.

MMRDA delegation holds meeting with UK-based advisory firm

On the opening day of WEF 2026, the delegation held a strategic meeting with Paul Dyson, CEO of Crossrail International, a UK-based advisory firm known for supporting large-scale transport infrastructure projects worldwide.

The discussions at Davos reaffirmed ongoing collaboration and explored opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building and best practices in metro rail and urban transport systems.

In another significant engagement, the MMRDA delegation also interacted with Professor Chris Bush from the University of California, Berkeley. Furthermore, the proposed collaboration is expected to open new avenues for academic exchange, research partnerships, and innovation in urban development. Officials said the initiative aligns with the vision of developing Mumbai as the talent capital of India and Asia.

WEF 2026 could be a crucial platform for attracting investments to Maharashtra

WEF 2026 is being seen as a crucial platform for Maharashtra to engage with global industry leaders, investors, and policymakers. Focused discussions during the summit will aim to boost foreign direct investment (FDI), catalyse industrial partnerships, enhance employment generation and promote sustainable economic growth across MMR.

MMRDA officials indicated that more updates on funding commitments, technology collaborations, and global alliances emerging from WEF 2026 will be shared in the coming days, as the authority works to fast-track world-class infrastructure and inclusive urban growth in the region.

On Sunday, Fadnavis said that a new development roadmap was being implemented in Mumbai as he reached Zurich in Switzerland to attend WEF in Davos.
