The Mumbai faction of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organised a protest against the arrest of Disha Ravi by the Delhi Police. The 21-year-old climate activist from Bengaluru was arrested in connection with the farmers’ protest ‘toolkit’ case on Saturday. The AAP held the protest at Carter Road Ampitheatre in Bandra (West) at 4 pm, said Ruben Mascarenhas, national joint secretary, Aam Aadmi Party.

“Disha Ravi's arrest is clearly aimed at suppressing the participation of young adults in any activity expressing dissent against the government. It is an attempt to scare youth, their friends and family. Also, lots of lacunae in the judicial process. Was there a transit remand from Bangalore? Why didn't she have a lawyer? This is a clear case of cyber-crime and I don’t know why Delhi Police is involved in this. Five-day custody for such a case is too harsh,” said Mascarenhas.

"Also, a toolkit is a set of resources which is used extensively for purposes of mobilization, protest and is pretty common. BJP IT cell uses tool kits for hate-mongering, targeted attacks on their political opponents," added the join secretary.

The Delhi Police has also registered a case against Mumbai-based lawyer Nikita Jacob in connection with the toolkit case. Soon after a non-bailable warrant was issued against Jacob, the advocate moved to the Bombay High Court for interim protection against the police action on Monday.  Her case will be heard on Tuesday.

“The Delhi Police is unable to find Komal Sharma, who was involved in the violence at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, but they have all the time in the world to chase young activists and lawyers. The AAP is against such acts which stifle democracy and free speech in the country,” said Mascarenhas.

When asked about his opinion on the three farm laws, Mascarenhas said, “The three farm laws were implemented by the government without consulting farmers. There should be talks with them and their concerns should be kept in mind.”
