Even though the state government has insisted on considering only RT-PCR tests’ positivity rate to unlock an area, statistics have revealed that Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) still form a major chunk of testing in the city. The ICMR has recommended a 70:30 ratio of RT-PCR and RAT, which means out of 100 tests, 70 should be RT-PCR.

But in June, among the average 28,831 tests daily in the city, the ratio for the two tests was 50:50, and in the past week, there were more RATs than RT-PCR tests.
