Divisional Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners made presentations about preparedness and efforts so far, while Army, Air Force, Navy, Indian Coast Guard, NDRF and Railways also briefed the Chief Minister about preparations for flood management and deployment of personnels in case of emergency, an official release said.
Railways have identified flooding locations in Mumbai, installed pumps and are working with the civic body BMC to keep tracks safe and to avoid any inconvenience to commuters, Fadnavis was told.
Konkan Division Commissioner briefed Fadnavis about possible landslide locations and safety measures in coastal districts.
BMC has identified 66 chronic water-logging locations and is also working on dilapidated buildings which need minor or major repairs or demolition, and desilting of drains.
Fadnavis said that more in-depth forecast was needed from the IMD, and asked the administration to identify heavy rainfall and high-tide days (if these two coincide, it worsens the flooding in the megapolis) and ensure more coordinated efforts on such days.
The CM specifically directed the Railways to make all the necessary arrangements and ensure that commuters should not suffer in any case. He also unveiled State Disaster Management Plan and Policy today.
