Around 80 Master&rsquo;s of Science students of Mumbai University (MU) were expected to write their semester IV paper on Information Technology (IT) at the Kirti College centre on Friday. However, it was only after they finished the exam that they realised that the paper was for Computer Science (CS).

Students found out that they were given the wrong paper when they were discussing the question paper with their friends who gave the exam at other centres. The IT exam for MSc Part-II was held from 11 am to 1 pm. Students claim that since the syllabus of IT and CS is somewhat similar, they did not realise that the question paper was wrong.
Studentspeak A student of MSc, on the condition of anonymity, said, &ldquo;We were supposed to give our IT paper of 60 marks. We got the paper and started writing it. As IT and CS have almost the same syllabus, we did not realise that we had the wrong question paper.
When we got out of the centre, we were discussing that the paper was quite tough. We asked one of our friends from another centre to send the question paper. When we saw a completely different paper, we realised that we had written for CS and not IT. We have written a letter to the principal of the centre and the vice-chancellor of Mumbai University, along with the controller of examinations.
We hope that their decision will be in the students&rsquo; favour.&rdquo; Students also approached Pradeep Sawant, a senate member of the university. Sawant said, &ldquo;We have taken the issue to the vice chancellor and controller of examination.
As it was not the students&rsquo; fault in anyway, they should not sit for the exams again. Since the syllabus of the two papers is almost similar, we have asked if an expert can be appointed to check if the issue can be sorted from this paper itself, or will they conduct another exam.&rdquo;
An official from the university has confirmed the incident and said that the varsity&rsquo;s examination department is discussing how to resolve the issue. Despite repeated attempts to get in touch with Dr VN Magare, principal of Kirti College, and Padma Deshmukh, controller of examinations, they remained unavailable for comment.
