Two years ago, an unidentified person allegedly uploaded around 50 obscene and pornographic videos involving children on Facebook. The Nainital police in Uttarakhand had registered an FIR in the case. However, after nearly two years of investigation, they traced the origin of the uploads to Bandra East in Mumbai and alerted the Mumbai police. Following this, the Kherwadi police registered a fresh FIR and have now begun tracing the unknown accused responsible for uploading the videos on Facebook.
According to the police, the videos were discovered on July 22, 2023, when a Nainital-based resident came across them on a Facebook page. The person immediately alerted the local police, after which the Nainital police registered an FIR against two suspects — Mahipal Madan Singh Mehra and Akash Kumar Gupta — believed to have created the page and uploaded the disturbing content.
“Around 50 such videos were uploaded. During the two-year investigation, Nainital police discovered that the videos were uploaded from Bandra East by an unidentified person,” a police officer said. Speaking to mid-day, DCP (Zone 8) Maneesh Kalwania said, “This incident occurred in 2023. Nainital police recently traced the tower location of the uploads to Mumbai. As per jurisdiction, the case has now been transferred to the Kherwadi police station. We have registered an FIR and launched a probe. Efforts are on to trace the accused.”
