Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday travelled by a local train from Ghatkopar in Mumbai to Kalyan in neighbouring Thane district. The minister shared on X a few pictures of her journey by the local train, the lifeline of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, newswire PTI reported.


She interacted with fellow commuters during the 30-km ride, the social media post said. More than 65 lakh people travel by suburban trains in the Mumbai region every day.


Meanwhile, Central Railway (CR) will operate Night Mega Block on both its main line and harbour line, including trans-harbour this weekend. The block will be between mid-night of Saturday, February 24 to early morning of Sunday, February 25, the CR has informed in its recent update on Mumbai local trains.


On CR's main line, night block will be between Matunga and Mulund on both Up and Down Fast lines from  00.30 hrs of Saturday to 04.30 hrs of Sunday. During the block period, Fast line services will be diverted on Slow line at Mulund station halting as per their respective scheduled halts. Between Matunga and Mulund stations trains will be re-diverted on Fast line at Matunga and will arrive destination 15 minutes behind schedule, the CR has informed.

On long-distance trains, the CR has informed that, mail/express trains leaving CSMT / Dadar will be diverted on Slow line at Matunga and will be re-diverted on Fast line at Mulund during the block period. While, mail/express trains arriving CSMT / Dadar will be diverted on Slow line at Mulund and will be re-diverted on Fast line at Matunga during the block period.

Harbour line block:

On harbour line the central railway will operate block between Panvel and Vashi on both UP and Down services from 00.40 am of Saturday to 04.40 hrs of Sunday. The block will exclude Nerul / Belapur-Kharkopar Port line services.

On Harbour line, night block will be for trains going towards CSMT leaving from 03.55 hrs of Sunday (Belapur local) to 4.27 hrs of Sunday (Panvel local). While, Harbour line services to Panvel/Belapur leaving CSMT from 23.30 pm of Saturday to 00.40 hrs of Sunday will remain suspended.

On trans-harbour line services towards Thane leaving Panvel from 23.18 hrs of Saturday to 04.33 hrs of Sunday and services towards Panvel leaving Thane at 00.05 hrs will remain suspended.

Trans-harbour line services will be available between Thane-Vashi/Nerul stations during the block period, the central railway informed.

Western Railway:

Western Railway (WR) will also carry night block. The night block between Mumbai Central and Mahim stations on Sunday. WR said that jumbo block of 03.30 hours will be under taken on up and down fast lines from 00.30 hrs to 04.00 hrs between Mumbai Central and Mahim stations in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
