A fire erupted at an engineering college in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, resulting in substantial damage to the administrative area and the principal's office, officials said on Wednesday.
There were no reported casualties from the incident, which occurred late Tuesday night at the private college, situated along the Sion-Panvel highway in the Kharghar region, according to officials.
The fire brigade was notified at 11.12 pm, prompting its personnel to quickly respond to the scene.
"The administrative office and the principal's office have been severely damaged in the blaze," an official from the CIDCO Fire Station said, reported PTI.
The equipment damaged in the fire included a couple of television sets, two air conditioners, as many computers and other furniture and fixtures, the official stated.
"The blaze was completely extinguished after a rigorous operation that lasted nearly an hour," the official said.
When questioned, the security guard on duty was unable to explain the cause of the fire, the official informed, reported news agency PTI.
"We are currently investigating the cause of the blaze," the official said, reported PTI.
Thane: 21-year-old electrocuted after touching live pole in Bhiwandi
In a tragic incident, a 21-year-old man lost his life due to electrocution after coming in contact with an electricity pole in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday evening in the Kashmir Compound area of Nalapar, located in the bustling industrial town of Bhiwandi, a police official informed.
The victim, identified as Sajaad Lalmohammad Jabbar Ansari, was a resident of Karivali Talao area in Bhiwandi. He came in contact with an electric pole situated on the ground.
"He suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed immediately. Locals at the spot rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival," an official from Bhoiwada police station said, quoting preliminary findings, reported news agency PTI.
The body has been sent for postmortem and the police have, as of now, registered a case of accidental death, he said.
"We are looking into whether there was any negligence," the official said, reported PTI.
