A major fire broke out at a cotton godown in Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday morning, officials said, reported news agency PTI.

There was no report of any casualty so far, they said.


The blaze was reported around 6 am at the godown located at Rahnal village in Bhiwandi town. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the warehouse, reported PTI.



Multiple fire engines from the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation were rushed to the spot and firefighting was currently underway, the civic body's disaster control cell chief Saquib Kharbe said, reported PTI.

The cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained.

Firecracker sparks blaze on balcony in Thane highrise; furniture destroyed

In another incident, a firecracker caused a blaze in the balcony of a house on the 31st floor of a building in Maharashtra's Thane city, damaging the furniture kept there, officials said on Tuesday, reported PTI.

No person was injured in the incident, which was reported at around 10.45 pm on Monday in the building located in the Patlipada area during the Diwali festival celebration, they said, reported PTI.

The blaze was caused by a firecracker lit during the celebration, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.

The furniture kept in the balcony of the flat, located on the building's 31st floor, was destroyed, he said, reported PTI.

After being alerted, fire personnel rushed to the spot and the blaze was put out within half an hour, the official said.

There were a couple of other minor fire incidents also in the city due to the firecrackers, he said, adding that no one was injured.

4 killed, 10 injured in fire at building in Navi Mumbai

Meanwhile, four persons were killed and 10 others suffered injuries after a fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai township shortly after midnight on Tuesday, police said, reported PTI.

Prima facie, the blaze started at around 12.30 am in a flat on the 10th floor of the Raheja Residency, MGM Complex, at Sector 14 in Vashi area, and spread to the 11th and 12th floors, an official said, reported PTI.

Two women, a man and a 6-year-old girl were killed, while 10 others were injured, he said.

The injured persons were rushed to two hospitals in Vashi.

After being alerted, 40 fire brigade personnel, along with 8 fire tenders and police, rushed to the spot and the blaze was put out by 4 am, the official said, reported PTI.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the official said.
