A small fire broke out at Essel World around 9.45 pm yesterday. But there were no casualties. An eyewitness, Rakesh Shetty, said, "Around 9.45 pm, we saw some flames inside the amusement arcade and immediately informed the fire brigade. We did not see anyone with burn injuries. And the chances of people being trapped inside are less as the arcade closes by 8 pm and is completely deserted except for the workers."

MiD DAY spoke to officials of the Fire Department, both at Mira-Bhayander where the arcade is located, and at Mumbai Fire Control Room. But they said that they had not received any information regarding a fire until then.

However, an official from Essel World, on condition of anonymity, did confirm the blaze. "It is true that a fire broke out but it was a minor one. It sparked off near the garbage dumping area and it was brought under control in less than 20 minutes."
