A fire broke out at a scrap godown in Maharashtra's <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-fire-breaks-out-in-store-room-on-terrace-of-thane-building-no-injuries-reported-23625902" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane</a> district in the early hours of Sunday, destroying machinery and large stocks of cardboard, a civic official said, reported news agency PTI.
No casualties were reported in the blaze that erupted around 6.40 am at the godown in Shamim Compound on the Shilphata-Mahape Road in Diwa, the official said, reported PTI.
The blaze destroyed a hydraulic paper baling press, a huge stock of scrap cardboard materials stored in the godown and electrical wiring, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the civic disaster management cell, reported PTI.
He said that the<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-fire-breaks-out-at-hotel-kitchen-in-thane-no-injuries-reported-23624898" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"> fire department</a> officers and personnel arrived at the spot with two high-rise fire vehicles, a rescue vehicle, and a jeep.
The blaze was brought under control after five hours of efforts, and no one was injured at the scene, he said, reported PTI.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, the official added.
<h2>Fire damages 10 shops in South Mumbai; no casualty</h2>
In another case, a fire broke out at a commercial structure in Mumbai, damaging around 10 shops, officials said on Sunday, reported PTI.
There were no casualties in the blaze, which was reported at 11.31 pm on Saturday on D B Marg opposite a mall in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/fire-breaks-out-in-mumbai-central-chawl-and-shops-no-injuries-reported-23626414" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai Central</a> area, they said, reported PTI.
The fire was confined to electric wiring, installations and equipment in around five large and seven small shops spread over nearly 5,000 sq ft on the ground and first floors of the structure, a civic official said, reported PTI.
Firefighters doused the blaze by 3.50 am on Sunday, the official said.
The cause of the fire was not yet known.

Earlier this month, a minor fire broke out at Terminal 1 of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-airport-maintenance-triggers-sharp-spike-in-airfares-23604260" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport</a>, prompting a swift response from emergency teams.
According to the Mumbai Fire Department, personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), police, and ward staff were immediately deployed to the spot of the fire breakout. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported at around 18:35 hrs at the ground floor of a ground-plus-three storey structure located at 1B Circle, Santacruz East. The fire was declared Level-I at 19:05 hrs.
Fire officials said the fire was confined to the ground-floor electric power house area, affecting ceiling-level electric trays, wiring, cables, installations, and panels. Emergency teams from the MFB, along with police and BMC ward staff, were immediately mobilised to the spot.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the airport said the fire was reported at around 18:10 hours and was caused by a short circuit.
"The fire was immediately brought under control by the emergency response teams within minutes. <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-24-women-held-after-dri-foils-major-gold-smuggling-attempt-at-mumbai-airport-23625079" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Airport operations</a> remain unaffected," the spokesperson said.
Authorities confirmed that the situation was quickly contained, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining normal functioning at one of the country's busiest airports.
