<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-western-railway-collects-rs-83-25-crore-from-over-11-3-lakh-ticketless-passengers-23643349" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Western Railway</a> on Wednesday announced a series of special train services to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic during the Ganpati festival 2026.
The special trains will connect important railway hubs in Mumbai and Gujarat with destinations in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Konkan region and Karnataka.
According to an official statement, the services were announced by the Chief Passenger Transportation Manager (CPTM) of Western Railway on August 5, 2026 after approval from the Railway Board.
The festival special trains will operate under the &lsquo;Train on Demand&rsquo; (TOD) category and will be available at special fares.
The additional services aim to provide more travel options for passengers travelling to their hometowns during the Ganesh festival period, when demand for <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/22-per-cent-stake-just-three-trains-why-konkan-railway-passengers-are-protesting-23642738" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Konkan-bound trains</a> usually rises sharply.
<h2>Key special train routes</h2>
The announced services include:
- Mumbai Central-Thokur weekly service:
Train No. 09013 will depart Mumbai Central every Tuesday at 10.45 am and reach Thokur at 8.50 am on Wednesday.
The return service (Train No. 09014) will leave Thokur on Wednesday at 11 am and arrive at Mumbai Central at 7.40 am on Thursday.

Train No. 09019 will operate four days a week &mdash; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday &mdash; departing Mumbai Central at 10.45 am.
The return train (09020) will run from Sawantwadi Road on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
- Bandra Terminus - Ratnagiri weekly service:
Train No. 09035 will leave Bandra Terminus every Thursday at 2.20 pm.
The return service (09036) will depart Ratnagiri on Friday at 1.30 am.
Gujarat-Konkan special services:&nbsp;
Additional trains will operate from Vadodara, Vishvamitri, Udhna and Valsad to Ratnagiri, providing direct connectivity for passengers from Gujarat.
<h2>Major stations covered</h2>
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/ganesh-chaturthi-2026-central-railway-announces-246-ganpati-special-trains-for-devotees-in-maharashtra-details-here-23641871" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">special trains will halt at several important stations</a>, including Borivali, Vasai Road, Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Kudal and Thivim.
These stops will help passengers travelling towards different parts of the Konkan region during the festival.
<h2>Special arrangements for passengers</h2>
Western Railway said double-ended electric locomotives will be used for trains starting from Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus to avoid delays caused by engine reversals at Vasai Road.
Station managers have been instructed to display complete timetables on noticeboards and make regular public announcements regarding the special services.
Passengers will also be able to check schedules and booking details through the Integrated Coaching Management System (ICMS) and National Train Enquiry System (NTES).
