A fire broke out at the Kanjurmarg dumping ground in Kannamwar Nagar II, Vikhroli (East) in Mumbai on Friday, the civic officials said, adding that the blaze was categorised as a Level-I (minor) fire.
According to the officials, the incident was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at 3:18 pm on Friday.
The officials later declared it a Level-I fire at 4:21 pm.
Teams from the MFB, Mumbai Police and BMC’s ward staff were sent to the spot to bring the situation under control. Smoke was seen rising from the dumping ground area, and firefighting operations were underway at the time of the update, issued at 4:26 pm.
No injuries have been reported so far, said the officials.
Further details were awaited.
In an earlier incident, last night, a massive fire broke out at a godown in Kurla area, civic officials had said on Thursday, adding that so far no injuries have been reported in the incident.
According to the officials, the blaze was initially categorised as a level-II fire. By 11:44 pm, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) escalated the incident to a Level-III (major) fire, as flames spread across 10 to 12 chawl structures (hutments).
A large emergency response was deployed to the site
"It was reported at a godown in Khalil Shaikh Chawl at Kismat Nagar in Kurla (West). The godown is located opposite to Kapadia Nagar," an official said.
The Fire Brigade received the call at 11:08 pm.
The blaze reportedly broke out in a godown within the chawl.
Multiple agencies were mobilised to control the fire, including the BMC Fire Brigade, local police, ward staff from BMC, the Electricity Distribution Company, and a 108 ambulance team.
