The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has a New Year gift for builders and real-estate developers. It has not only cut down the number of permissions required for building construction from 119 to 58, but also reduced the time to acquire them to 60 days.

The announcement, which was made at a function on Saturday in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis, was part of a new booklet on construction permissions that are required from the BMC&rsquo;s building proposal department.
Permissions halved The booklet enlists a new standard operating procedure for builders wherein building construction permissions have been brought down from 119 existing to 58 &mdash; a good 52 per cent. Now, a parallel process, in which, multiple departments will give permission at the same time, will end the builders&rsquo; long wait. This means that the number of days required to get these permissions will also reduce from a year to two months.
&ldquo;This (the manual) will reduce 119 permissions to 58 and is part of our continuous effort towards providing efficient, timely and hassle free services to citizens,&rdquo; the CM, who launched the book, tweeted after the event.
According to the manual, there will be a one-window clearance for any type of payments and online payment facility will also be available in the future. Earlier, there were 89 steps for an individual fee to be carried out at different stages at different offices. Builders can now carry out a self-certification through consultants of internal sewage or water supply systems.
