Seventeen months after he was arrested for his alleged role in the murder of MiD DAY Editor (Special Investigations) Jyotirmoy Dey, the Bombay High Court granted bail to bookie Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur on medical grounds yesterday.
The court acted on medical reports asking to treat Asrani’s case ‘sympathetically’, owing to his failing health. A division bench of Justices VM Kanade and PD Kode noted, “The applicant is in a very critical condition and needs to be operated immediately on account of his liver failure.”u00a0
In his report to the court, Dr JB Bhavani, head of Urology and Deputy Superintendent at St George’s Hospital, said, “I request you to consider this case sympathetically considering his end-stage liver failure and request the liver transplant authorities to perform early liver transplantation.”
