The Mumbai police are putting a five-tier security arrangement (see box) in place to guard the city till election day on October 13.
Sources say the police, who have received 47 terror-related alerts from various intelligence agencies in the last two months, are keeping a close watch on outfits like the Sri Lanka-based LTTE and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Himanshu Roy refused to confirm the development. "I won't be able to talk to you at this point because I am involved in some operations," Roy said.
All police stations have been ordered to carry out mock drills in the days leading to the elections, and cops on regular duty have been asked to comb neighbourhoods that comprise their beats.
