His last message said no one was to blame for his suicide
A 26-year-old student of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) died by suicide on Monday, early morning, after jumping off the terrace of the college hostel building. According to the police, the deceased was undergoing treatment for depression.
The deceased, Darshan Ramdhan Malviya, was a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and was a second year Masters of Design (Media and Communication) student.
Malviya took admission to the hostel in July 2021. He was, however, coping with mental health issues and was being treated for depression, police said.
According to the police officers, around 4.30 am, when all the students were asleep, Malviya went to the terrace of the seven-storey hostel building, number 12. He allegedly jumped from the terrace and ended his life. His body was spotted by the watchman, who then informed the hostel staff and police about the incident.
Malviya was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and are waiting for the report.
Senior inspector Budhan Sawant said, “We have registered an accidental death report in this matter and are probing the case further.”
Police sources said, “From the past four months, the deceased was undergoing treatment for depression at the campus.”
Police sources said, “When we checked his hostel room, we found a message on the board, stating that no one should be held responsible for his death.”
IIT-B officials said, “It was a very unfortunate incident. We have lost a second-year masters student and we express our condolences.”
