IMD forecasts light to moderate showers over South Marathwada and Vidarbha; yellow alert issued

The IMD has predicted light to moderate intermittent rain over South Marathwada and adjoining Vidarbha in the next few hours. Parbhani received the highest rainfall at 121.4 mm. A yellow alert has been issued as Cyclone Shakti continues to bring moderate rains and gusty winds to Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of light to moderate intermittent showers over parts of the South Marathwada region and adjoining districts of Vidarbha during the next two to three hours.




Former head of the Climate Research and Services, IMD Pune, KS Hosalikar, while posting on social media platform X, stated, “Possibility of light to moderate intermittent showers during the next 2–3 hours over parts of the South Marathwada region & adjacent districts of Vidarbha at isolated places.”

Kosalikar further posted the detailed rainfall data till October 5. As per the official data, Parbhani taluka received the highest rainfall at 121.4 mm, followed by Palam (73 mm), Gangakhed (56 mm), Purna (55 mm), Sonpeth (51 mm), Manwat (44 mm), Pathri (21 mm), Jintur (7 mm), and Selu (5 mm).

Considering that the IMD further forecasted the possibility of light to moderate intermittent showers over parts of South Marathwada and adjoining districts of Vidarbha during the next two to three hours at isolated locations, a yellow alert for the regions was already issued by the authorities. 

Earlier on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a Cyclone Shakti warning for some districts of Maharashtra. While issuing the alert, the weather agency warned about the moderate rains and gusty winds between October 3 and October 7. 

Cloudy sky with light to moderate rain likely expected today

Mumbai is expected to experience a generally cloudy sky today, with the possibility of occasional light to moderate spells of rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Mumbai weather updates. 

Furthermore, IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 29.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.9 degrees Celsius on Monday. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory reported a high of 30.2 degrees Celsius and a low of 24.5 degrees Celsius.

During the 24-hour period from 8 am on October 5 to 8 am on October 6, the city recorded 0.82 mm of rainfall, while the eastern suburbs received 2.92 mm and the western suburbs 0.36 mm. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly, especially during high tide and intermittent rain spells.
