The Bandra family court on Friday began hearing the fresh divorce case filed by Sunjay Kapur against estranged wife Karisma.

Sunjay filed the fresh petition in December after the couple could not arrive at grounds for divorce via mutual consent despite a protracted process.
Both were present in the court with their lawyers on Friday.
As the court began the hearing on Sunjay&rsquo;s plea that Karisma had &ldquo;failed as a wife, daughter-in-law and mother&rdquo; and that she married him only for the money. With several strong allegations being made in the divorce application, Karisma&rsquo;s lawyer on Friday sought time to file their reply after which the court then gave them time till February 2.

&ldquo;Though I wasn&rsquo;t present at the hearing, we will file our reply to the divorce petition in the next hearing,&rdquo; Karisma&rsquo;s lawyer Kranti Sathe told mid-day.
The couple was married in 2003 and has two children, Samaira and Kian Raj. Karisma had earlier withdrawn her consent, saying Sunjay failed to comply with the financial commitments mentioned in the consent terms.
In his fresh petition, Sunjay has claimed Karisma used access to the children to demand money. He had also said Karisma denied his ailing father access to the kids. Those present during Friday&rsquo;s hearing said the bitterness between the couple was evident.

&ldquo;There have been instances in the past when Sunjay was allowed to meet the kids,&rdquo; said Priya Hingorani, Sunjay&rsquo;s lawyer. &ldquo;As he was in Mumbai this time, he requested her to meet the kids after school. But Karisma said no. She added that he could meet them in court if he wanted but not at home. Sunjay then said he doesn&rsquo;t want them to be exposed to court and he doesn&rsquo;t want to meet them.&rdquo;
