The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has asked architects appointed on the proposed Seawoods-Uran rail corridor to come up with simple designs.

The reason is the burden of maintaining the existing stations built by CIDCO. Sources added that the town-planning agency does not want to spend more on maintenance of these upcoming stations, since to maintaining stations is an existing burden.
&ldquo;CIDCO has already announced that they want to hand over the maintenance of Harbour line stations to Central Railway. However, nothing has been finalised yet, and as a result, CIDCO continues to manage maintenance. We have asked architects to keep the designs of the stations simple,&rdquo; said a senior official from CIDCO.
Station maintenance &ldquo;We are ready to hand over the maintenance to Central Railway immediately, however there were delays from their side,&rdquo; said Mohan Ninawe, Chief PRO, CIDCO.
A CR spokesperson had earlier said, &ldquo;It is not as easy as it looks. If we have to take over maintenance, there are factors that need to be looked into. CIDCO cannot maintain the stations so they want us to take over.&rdquo;
Once completed, the 27 km rail corridor will connect Seawoods and Belapur to Uran. The route will have 10 new stations including Seawoods, Sagar Sangam, Targhar, Bamandongari, Kharkopar, Gavhan, Ranjanpada, Nhava-Sheva, Dronagiri and Uran. The line would also be connected from Nerul and Belapur.
The deadline for the first phase of the project is December 2017, while phase-2 of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Meanwhile, CIDCO is also trying to acquire 4 km of forest land between Gavhan and Ranjanpada stations that falls under phase 2 of the project.
CIDCO has not yet acquired 7.95 hectares of forest land, which is crucial since the phase-2 railway line from Gavhan to Uran will pass through this stretch.
