All thanks to illegal parking. The authorities had cleared the service road between Kherwadi signal and Santacruz before the construction of the northbound arm commenced, so that traffic heading north could be diverted on this road.

&lsquo;Tow them away&rsquo; Speaking to mid-day, an MMRDA official said, &ldquo;We repaired the service road so that vehicles can be diverted and there is less traffic on the highway. But illegal parking on the road by locals creates ugly traffic jams during evening hours.
We also plan to seek help from the traffic police department. We&rsquo;ll request them in writing to tow away all the illegally parked vehicles.&rdquo; When this correspondent visited the service road yesterday to take stock of the situation, he discovered that the passage was blocked with haphazardly parked two-wheelers.
One of the traffic police constables deployed in the area said, &ldquo;Despite towing away illegally parked vehicles, locals refuse to mend their ways. We will continue taking action against offenders, but vehicle owners ought to understand that their uncivilised behaviour is causing unwanted knots in traffic.&rdquo;
