The income of Rahul Shewale, a member of parliament and a candidate from South Central, increased at least sevenfold in the last five years. The value of assets owned by the MP and his wife rose from Rs 1.9 crore to Rs 13.4 crore, while their loans and liabilities also increased from Rs 78 lakh to Rs 4.35 crore. Similarly, the property of MP Arvind Sawant from Shiv Sena (UBT) grew from Rs 2.7 crore to Rs 5 crore, with no loans or liabilities.

On Monday, Anil Desai, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate, and Rahul Shewale, Shiv Sena candidate, filed their nomination forms for the South Central Mumbai constituency. Similarly, Arvind Sawant, an MP and candidate from Shiv Sena (UBT), filed his nomination for the South Mumbai constituency. All three candidates declared their income through affidavits. A comparison of the affidavits of MPs shows significant escalations in their property values.


Rahul Shewale
As per the affidavit filed by Shewale, he and his wife acquired movable assets including cash, bank deposits, shares/mutual funds, car, and gold worth Rs 1.28 crore. Now, they both have Rs 3.47 crore in movable assets, including 600 grams of gold worth Rs 43 lakh.

The rise is around threefold, but the growth in immovable property, such as land and homes, escalated rapidly. The couple’s property increased from Rs 1.9 crore to Rs 13.4 crore. Shewale mentioned in the affidavit that the sources of income include Lok Sabha salary, rental income, interest income, spouse’s business, and professional consultancy. The couple has taken loans from banks as well as individuals amounting to Rs 4.35 crore.

Arvind Sawant
Arvind Sawant mentioned that he and his spouse acquired property worth Rs 5 crore, including movable and immovable assets. The MP’s property has now doubled, with Rs 4.4 crore in movable assets, including bank deposits and gold, and the value of his immovable assets increased to Rs 65 lakh. He does not have any loans.

Anil Desai
Anil Desai, an advocate by profession, has declared assets including those owned by his wife worth Rs 17 crore. While Desai possessed 530 grams of gold worth Rs 35 lakh, his wife possessed 2,300 grams of gold worth Rs 1.53 crore. The immovable assets include a flat of 1,857 square feet on Bhulabhai Desai Road worth Rs 13.37 crore.
