At least 30 egrets allegedly died after falling from their nests while the pruning and trimming of trees was underway at a private housing society near Ghodbunder Road in Maharashtra's Thane.

Honorary Wildlife Warden Rohit Mohite told mid-day that many birds had died after falling from the trees that were their nests, due to the fault of the contractor carrying out the pruning and trimming work.

Rohit Mohite said, "We were at the site and the tree contractor appointed by the society was not stopping. They claim that they have a Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) permission letter. I had a word with the tree officer of TMC, who clearly mentioned that any violation or harm to wildlife will automatically cancel the permissions, and it is mentioned in the permission letter."
