The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved the recruitment of 15,000 police personnel in the state and relaxed the age criterion, the state Chief Minister's Office said, reported the PTI.
Of the 15,000 police personnel, 12,399 will be recruited as constables, 234 constable drivers, 25 bandsmen, 2,393 armed constables, and 580 prison constables.
The recruitment will be done on the basis of posts that have remained vacant in 2024 and 2025, the statement said.
The state cabinet also approved the relaxation of the age criterion for candidates who missed their chance in 2022 and 2023.
The CMO statement further said that constables play a crucial role in maintaining law and order in the state, and vacant posts lead to stress in the police force, according to the PTI.
The Supreme Court had directed to fill vacant posts, and elected representatives had also raised the issue in the state legislature, it stated.
Apart from this, the cabinet approved Viability Gap Funding for air services on the Solapur-Pune-Mumbai route.
The statement said the Solapur airport will be one of the airports covered under the Udaan scheme.
As per the decision, Star Air will be paid Rs 3,240 per passenger for the Mumbai-Solapur and Pune-Solapur routes.
The government has earmarked Rs 17.97 crore for the scheme. This will help in bringing down the cost, it said.
It stated that the provision will cease to exist after the Udaan scheme is applicable to the Solapur airport.
In another decision, the cabinet relaxed norms for guarantors of loans under schemes run by different public sector undertakings of the social justice department.
Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis on Tuesday said that work on the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is progressing at a rapid pace and expressed confidence it will be completed on schedule.
Asked by reporters about the impact of 50 per cent American tariffs on Indian exports, he informed a preliminary meeting had been held to identify the sectors in
Maharashtra that are likely to be affected by the high duties and to explore ways to support them.
"We have formed a high-power committee to review the situation in different regions, identify alternative markets, and suggest measures to help affected industries. The recommendations of this committee will be implemented," the CM assured.
