The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/call-it-connecting-link-says-fadnavis-as-he-inaugurates-mumbai-pune-expressway-missing-link-receives-guinness-world-record-for-widest-underground-tunnel-23628428" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra government</a> has approved a comprehensive development plan worth Rs 4,150.46 crore for Pandharpur, a key religious destination in the state.
The decision was taken at a high-level committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai.
He directed officials to complete the entire project within 30 months, keeping in mind future requirements for the next 50 years.
Fadnavis stressed the need to provide proper infrastructure for the growing number of devotees visiting the town every year.
<h2>Focus on better facilities for pilgrims</h2>
Pandharpur is one of Maharashtra&rsquo;s most important pilgrimage centres, attracting lakhs of devotees during major events such as Ashadhi, Kartiki, Chaitri and Maghi yatras.
The Chief Minister said that the development work should ensure a clean, safe and less crowded environment, while also improving the overall spiritual <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/opinion/article/missing-link-is-great-but-pay-attention-to-roads-too-23628463" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">experience for visitors</a>.
<h2>Key projects under the plan</h2>
According to proposals presented at the meeting, major works will include:
- Construction of corridors for crowd management
- Conservation and restoration of ancient temples and monasteries
- Development of facilities for pilgrims and local residents
- Beautification of river ghats
- Development of roads, bridges and parking facilities
- Creation of commercial complexes and public amenities
Allocation for different components
The plan includes:
- Rs 735.80 crore for <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/devendra-fadnavis-arrives-in-newly-registered-amg-g-63-at-mumbai-pune-connecting-link-inauguration-23628490" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">crowd management</a>, heritage conservation and pilgrim facilities
- Rs 1,387.91 crore for roads, ghats, parking, urban development and related works
- Rs 2,026.75 crore for land acquisition, rehabilitation and compensation
<h2>Compensation and rehabilitation measures</h2>
According to an official statement, CM Fadnavis instructed authorities to ensure fair and timely compensation for affected residents, businesses and tenants.
He also directed that funds for land acquisition and other works should be made available without delay, so that no <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-cm-fadnavis-orders-housing-stock-policy-to-support-development-project-affected-families-in-mumbai-adjoining-areas-23628545" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">project</a> is held up due to lack of funding.
The meeting was attended by several senior leaders and officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Minister Ganesh Naik, Guardian Minister Jaykumar Gore, MLA Samadhan Avatade, and Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, it said.

The statement further said that the development plan aims to transform Pandharpur into a well-planned and sustainable pilgrimage destination with <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-govt-plans-overall-development-of-ahilyabai-holkar-memorial-site-at-her-birthplace-23627740" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">modern infrastructure</a> while preserving its religious and cultural significance.
