When Tukaram Mundhe assumed charge as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner of Maharashtra on May 25, the message across the state was swift and unequivocal that compliance with food safety norms is non-negotiable. In just two months, the FDA under his direct oversight quadrupled sample testing across Maharashtra, inspecting thousands of food business operators.
Having put high-end clubs, legacy eateries, and adulteration cartels on notice, Mundhe has now launched the statewide campaign ‘Safe Food For Every Child in Maharashtra’, imposing strict, zero-tolerance regulations on school canteens, hostel mess halls, and midday meal providers across all schools.
